Who I am
I was lucky enough to grow up on a beautiful island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where celebrations were simple and meaningful. We gathered with close friends and family, added a few thoughtful decorations, and focused on what truly mattered — the people in the room.
Maybe it was the ’90s. Maybe island life just slows things down. Either way, that approach to hosting has stayed with me.
I deeply admire the creativity and talent of professional party designers and planners. But if I’m honest, it’s easy to get swept up in spending — and I often ask myself: is that really the point?
My perspective is simple: I want the people I love to feel special. I want guests to walk in and immediately sense the care and intention behind the space. At the same time, I’m thoughtful about what I buy — choosing pieces I can reuse for future celebrations whenever possible and staying mindful of cost when I can’t.
I love doing the work before everyone arrives so I can truly be present once they’re here. Great food, good drinks, a little fun — and yes, usually a chic disposable plate because I don’t love a sink full of dishes (unless it’s a holiday and I’ve recruited dish duty). But more than anything, I care about creating room for real connection — not just small talk, but meaningful conversation. The kind where you truly listen, celebrate someone’s win, support them through something hard, and make them feel genuinely seen.
Semi-Hosted is about celebrating beautifully without losing sight of why we’re gathering in the first place. It’s about thoughtful details, intentional effort, and keeping the focus where it belongs — on your people.
I hope you’ll find inspiration here to create gatherings that feel meaningful, effortless, and memorable.
Thanks for being here.
xoxo,
Jenny
